Business & Finance is 120 questions in 6.5 hours, open book. General, building, residential, roofing, pool, air conditioning: every contractor category sits it. Our prep teaches the rules, the math, and where each answer sits in your books.
Online and self-paced, with lifetime access.
DBPR publishes the weights. Our ten modules follow them, and our simulators draw their questions in the same proportions.
Business structures, registration, qualifying, financial responsibility and insurance.
Overhead, insurance, bids and contracts, purchasing, draw requests and the safety program.
Scheduling, materials, equipment, safety records and paying subcontractors on time.
Financial statements and ratios, job costing, receivables and payables, cash flow, payroll and payroll taxes.
Hiring, wage and hour law, workers’ compensation and employment records.
Chapter 455, Chapter 489, the lien law, the Recovery Fund, OSHA and tax rules.
From DBPR’s Business and Finance Examination Content Information sheet. Each weight may vary by about three points. Every part of the exam also tests basic math.
An open-book exam rewards the candidate who finds the answer fastest. So we teach the rules and the math, and we train you to find them in your books.
One per exam area, starting with how to pass an open-book exam. Each ends with a ten-question knowledge check.
A drill after every module, with an explanation and the source for every answer. Each attempt reshuffles the questions.
Questions that ask which book, and which section, holds the answer. Take them with your books open.
Payroll, ratios, markup and margin, percent complete and more. Every attempt draws a new set of problems.
Numbers and rules on flashcards, a cram guide for every module, a night-before sheet and tab maps for your books.
120 questions in 6.5 hours, drawn in the exam’s own proportions. Score 80% on both and you’re ready to book.
Only titles on DBPR’s approved reference list may come into the room, and the answers follow the editions it lists. Buy for the date you’ll test.

Coming soonNo. Florida requires you to pass the exams, not to take a course. Our examination preparation is built for exactly that: passing them, on your own schedule.
All of them. General, building and residential contractors take three exams: Business & Finance, Contract Administration and Project Management. Every other category, from roofing to pool to air conditioning, takes Business & Finance plus one trade exam.
If you already passed Business & Finance for one license and apply in another category, you may be exempt from taking it again.
Apply with Professional Testing, Inc. at floridaexam.com, then book your seat with Pearson VUE. The Board’s fee rule sets $135 when you schedule, $80 for each test you sit, and $40 to process your application after you pass. Pearson VUE raised its fees in 2023, so confirm the amounts when you register.

Within minutes of checkout you get an email to create your password for our student portal, where your prep is waiting. It works on a phone, a tablet or a computer.
You retake only the exam you missed. You can review the questions you got wrong at a Pearson VUE center if you ask within 21 days. The Board’s rule gives you four years from your first attempt to pass every exam your license needs; after that, earlier scores no longer count.
