Keeping your Florida real estate license active isn’t something you can leave to chance. In addition to paying your renewal fee, the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR) requires that you complete the correct continuing education course before your renewal deadline. If you miss that requirement, you could face late fees, have your license go inactive, or — in the worst cases — be forced to retake an exam to get reinstated.
That’s why it’s so important to know exactly what course you need. Luckily, you don’t need to guess or make calls to find out — you can check it yourself online in just a few minutes using the DBPR website. Below is a step-by-step guide (with screenshots) that will walk you through the entire process.
Step 1: Visit the DBPR Website 🌐
Your first stop is the official DBPR website: www.myfloridalicense.com.
This site is the central hub for all licensing activity in Florida, from applying for a new license to renewing your current one.
Once you land on the homepage, look for the link that says “Verify a License.” This is where you can search for any licensee in the state, including yourself. Clicking it will take you to the Licensee Search Options page, where the magic begins.

Step 2: Choose “Search by License Number” 🔍
When you arrive on the search page, you’ll see several ways to look up a license: by name, city, county, license type, or license number.
While you can technically use your name, searching by license number is the most accurate — especially if your name is common or there are multiple licensees with similar details.
Select the “Search by License Number” option. This will ensure you get your record instantly without sorting through a list of results.
Step 3: Enter Your License Number 📝
This is where you’ll type your unique 7 digit Florida real estate license number into the search box.
If you’re not sure where to find it, check your printed license certificate, your DBPR online account, or any official renewal notice you’ve received.
Once you’ve typed in your number, click Search. If entered correctly, your license record will appear almost instantly. 
Step 4: Open Your License Details 📄
From the search results page, click on your name to open your License Details.
This page is like your license profile — it shows your current status (such as Current/Active, Inactive, or Expired), your license type (Sales Associate, Broker, etc.), and the expiration date for your license.
Taking a moment here to double-check your expiration date can help you plan ahead and avoid last-minute renewals.
Step 5: Quickly Figure Out Your Course by Looking at the Dates 📆
This part is easy — all you have to do is look at your license expiration date and think about when you first got licensed.
If this is your very first time renewing your license and it’s been less than two years since you got it, you’ll take the post-licensing course (45 hours if you’re a Sales Associate, 60 hours if you’re a Broker).
If you’ve had your license for more than two years and you’ve already renewed before, you’ll just need the 14-hour continuing education course.
That’s it. No complicated steps, no extra pages — just a quick check of your dates and you’ll know exactly what to sign up for.
Step 6: Enroll in the Correct Course ✅
Once you know your exact requirement, your next step is to enroll in the correct course with a state-approved school — like South Florida Career Center.
